I’ve always enjoyed spring and the feeling of new beginnings. I love the change of the seasons, summer nights, warmth and the vibrant colours of autumn. But in the past I’ve found winter harder to embrace. It can feel pretty gloomy at times, with the nights drawing in and the damp, wild weather. We complain of it being depressing, of having little energy or motivation to do things.
But I’ve realised that’s the idea! Winter is a time when we can turn our energies inwards. Rather than spreading them outwards as we might do in spring or summer. It’s a time when we can hibernate and go into ourselves, sowing the seeds for anything we want to create. Where we can rest, get cosy and comfort ourselves. It’s a gift, like all of the other seasons. And we’re lucky to see another winter at all.
Hot drinks, blankets, a warm house and bed, hot water bottles, warm socks, hearty meals, candles and Christmas lights, curling up with a book or film, and long walks on cold, bright days – some of my favourite winter things. What are yours?
Join me in embracing winter this year. In loving every season and appreciating what it offers. It’s another way to be fully alive and to really enjoy life.
Things are constantly changing and moving in cycles. Sometimes we’re more conscious of it than others. But nature can help and guide us.
Let’s embrace every season and every part of us – we need them all.
Let’s allow winter to bring us home to ourselves.
With love,
Kelly x
