Your friendship is a gift.
You will never know how much.
You are like a beacon of light on a very dark night.
You are unwavering and steadfast in your support.
You are loyal beyond words and any doubt. You don’t know how precious that is to me.
To know you are there, to know that you care. To know that you see me, that you value me, that you know who I am.
To know I can be myself with you – my real self – without fear of judgment or rejection.
To see your strength; to know that it’s available to me too.
To know true love, through our friendship – that is a gift. One that I will remain forever grateful for, Thank you.
Friendship is underrated in my opinion.
Our closest friends are with us for life.
Our friends are with us through our highest highs and our lowest lows.
There is so much emphasis placed on romantic love and finding ‘the one’ – on finding your partner for life. And we all know how good the promise of that feels.
But what about the love and beauty within our friendships?
What about the unconditional love we receive from our families?
This can get overlooked, but it’s easily enough to fill up a person for a whole lifetime.
Soulmates come in many different forms. Soulmates don’t have to be a romantic partner.
Soulmates are those that see you, appreciate you, challenge you when needed and accept you exactly as you are.
If I could have given my younger self some advice it would have been to invest in friendships; to enjoy romantic love and relationships, but not to make that the main focus.
If I had known then what I know now about the love and richness that can be found in other connections, I would have saved myself a lot of time and trouble!
We’re taught to seek our one true love. We’re conditioned to look for the fairytale and the happily ever after. And this can be wonderful.
But let’s not forget about the day to day kinship, camaraderie and support that can come from our friends or our families.
Let’s not overlook the very people that are always there for us – always loyal, the ones that would be ready to drop anything.
If we experience love like that in our lives then we have won the jackpot.
And it’s not a love that needs to be contained or grabbed onto. It’s not a love that forsakes all others. It’s a love that has room for everyone. It’s a love that is vast and eternal.
Think about the people you have in your life right now, the people that you cherish. The people that you know will always love and support you. Let the feeling of that fill you up from the inside.
Be so grateful for it, in whatever form it comes.
Cherish and nurture it. Never lose sight of it.
Never lose sight of the love that you are and the love you have around you.
Don’t be so busy focussing on what you don’t have that you fail to notice what you do have.
Tell the people that you love how much you do and why. Tell them what a difference they make, just by being themselves. Tell them how grateful you are for their presence in your life.
Because we all like to hear that. We all forget our own light from time to time. And our friends and our families are often the ones that are there to remind us. So show some appreciation for that.
