Sometimes we get so caught up in our thinking, in our worries, in things we’re scared of and in trying to control the outcome of anything we’re worried about, that we don’t spend much time thinking about the things we do want.
When we’re caught up in insecure or fearful thinking about anything, it takes most of our attention. When we’re really worried or fearful we go into fight or flight and our bodies pump out stress hormones, making us feel as if there is even more to be scared of.
In this state we’re in survival mode and we can’t focus on the things that would actually make us feel better, or bring us joy.
So I just wanted to put out a gentle invitation today for you to be really kind to yourself whenever you notice that you’re caught up in any insecure or fearful thinking. This will help to soothe your nervous system.
Naturally we want any fearful feelings to go away as quickly as possible so we try to resist them, and we feel frustrated that they’re there at all. We also try to scan our minds for anything that would bring relief.
All of this takes place on the surface of our experience, and we lose sight of the deeper place of wellbeing within us.
When we can slow down and do nothing, or go for a walk and make space for those energies to pass through us, usually they will.
Our minds will tell us that we can’t stand feeling a certain way, that we can’t tolerate it and that we need to escape it or do something about it. But this is just a story that’s spinning around. So you can gently notice this and try to be loving towards whatever fearful feelings are there.
When we make space for whatever it is, without feeling the need to analyze it too much or worry about what it means, it will pass through; leaving space for us to feel what’s underneath – which is love, a place of wellbeing, and peace.
From this space we have access to all the wisdom we’ll ever need. We’ll have ideas about what we’d actually like to be focusing on, about things that will feel good, comforting or helpful, and about things that will take us in the direction we want to go.
So next time you’re feeling fearful, take some deep breaths, stop or slow down and turn towards whatever it is you feel like you need to run from. Know that you’ve become caught up in some scary thoughts which have made you feel unsafe, but that this is all coming to life from inside you. That it’s only as real as the thinking that’s creating it in the moment.
By accepting this as just energy moving through us, and being loving towards it we allow it to pass rather than blocking it with our resistance.
By intentionally bringing our focus back to the place of wellness within us, we allow ourselves to focus on whatever it is we do want, rather than on what we want to avoid. We allow ourselves to experience the deeper feelings of peace, wellbeing, love and joy, that will guide us towards those things with pleasure.
So that we can move from focusing on fear, insecurities, uncertainty and lack, towards focusing on feeling secure, abundant, safe and sure.
The more time we spend focusing on what we do want to experience the more we’ll start experiencing it, right there in the moment. We have our minds to thank for that. The same minds that help scare us half to death with fearful thoughts and projections (!), can help us bring what we do want to life as well. By simply placing our attention on it, and allowing our senses to bring it to life.
We get to use the creative power of thought however we want to. How cool is that?!
With love,
Kelly x
