Sometimes life asks us to be brave.
Sometimes our greatest strength lies in no longer defending ourselves. From the things we’re scared of. From taking risks.
It’s so easy to be scared of everything. Of making the wrong decisions. Of failing. Or making mistakes.
But in trying to protect ourselves, by trying to get everything right and being so afraid of getting things wrong, we’re not really living. We become paralysed.
The truth is we’ll never get rid of fear. And we’ll always make mistakes. We’re human. But we can choose to live in spite of that and to cultivate courage.
We need courage to walk any new path, to get to know ourselves better or to go against the grain. To go after something we really want, with no guarantee of success. We need courage to help us speak up or to let go.
If you can be brave, you’ll be unstoppable.
If you can learn to tolerate the feelings that come from stepping out of your comfort zone, you’ll be free.
You’ll be free to live and to try. To try with no guarantee of anything, other than the satisfaction of knowing you decided to be you. You decided to take a chance. You decided to be brave.
This doesn’t have to be a huge act or feat. It can be, but isn’t limited to that. It might be a great but private act of vulnerability. It might be admitting your imperfections. It might be speaking the truth as you see it, or being very honest with yourself and in your closest relationships.
Sometimes the things we do in our personal lives are the most courageous acts of all. They go unseen, but we know what it’s taken and what it will take to face up to certain things. To be brave.
You never know what will be on the other side of that bravery. Regardless you can choose to be proud of your courage and to build it like a muscle.
Life involves falling. If you’re brave and if you’re taking risks you will fall down. But at least you’re trying. At least you’re living. The worst kind of regrets can come from sitting on the fence. Jump in, get your hands dirty. See what happens. You’ll either ‘succeed’ or you’ll learn something important. But don’t die wondering.
If we can do the things that scare us most there will be nothing left to fear.
Sometimes you’ll fall. But sometimes you’ll fly. Be brave enough to find out.
With love,
