I was lucky enough to spend a few days in Venice earlier this month. There was beauty around every corner…
This got me thinking about the beauty in our everyday lives. It’s so easy to appreciate it when we’re in a beautiful place and somewhere new.
But what about the beauty that’s all around us, every day? The things we may see often but take for granted. What about pausing to pay more attention to that?
Slow down and notice what’s around you today. Stop to appreciate nature and everyday beauty. Take photos to capture what you see. Look around you. Look out. Look up.
Look at the sky, the clouds, and the colours. Notice the leaves and the trees. Breathe in the cool, fresh air.
Feel the air against your skin. Feel the fabric of your clothing. Use your senses.
Wake up. Feel enlivened. Gaze at the moon.
Look for things you may never have noticed on old familiar routes. Or take a different route and pay attention to what you see. Allow yourself to wander. Be present. Be here now.
Notice how this can calm a busy mind. Notice how peaceful, grateful and inspired it can make you feel.
Tune into the sights and sounds all around you. Use all of your senses. Feel your feet on the ground and your own heart beating. Feel awake and alive. Be grateful for all that you have and all that you see.
Wherever you are right now there is a treasure trove of delights just waiting to be so discovered.
We can marvel and stand in awe of it all. We can find beauty in the silence and in nature. It’s always there for us. It’s a constant.
When we take our time we can savour things more. We can enjoy life’s simple pleasures. We actually have time to notice them. Our awareness grows and we pick up on the subtleties in things.
We are only here for such a short time. Do we really want to rush through everything?
What about the art of savouring? Really savouring – conversation, food, loved ones, a sunset, nature. Or scent, music, fresh sheets, love, joy and feeling.
There is no time for savouring when we rush.
So slow down and dwell longer than you might normally. Take a moment to enjoy the beauty that’s all around you, just waiting to be noticed. And fill yourself up with the magic of it all.
With love,
Kelly x
