Back in December I was chatting to a friend about joy. Something that these days I always try to keep at the forefront of my mind, but that after a busy couple of weeks had slipped out of my awareness. Joy, oh yes joy! My body felt relieved at the prospect.
And I was reminded of something else I often think to: ‘If it isn’t fun, don’t do it!’
So I invite you to consider whether the things that you’re doing feel like fun.
If it isn’t fun, don’t do it!
Or if you can’t get out of it, how can you get into it?
How can you make your life as fun as possible? You get to decide.
What’s the most fun way you can do whatever it is you want or need to do?
How much fun will you allow yourself to have?
Sometimes it’s just a case of remembering joy. That we should follow it. That it’s available. That life is here to be enjoyed.
It can be easy to get bogged down in the everyday. For things to become really heavy and serious. For us to treat things as a means to an end, or think we just need to get through them.
But what about remembering what brings us joy, and makes us the happiest?
What about following fun and allowing that to be our main focus?
Sometimes things are heavy and serious. Things happen and we have no choice but to deal with what comes our way. Things can’t be light in those moments.
But there are many other moments where we cause our own suffering. We make things heavier or more serious than they need to be. We don’t do this on purpose, but it can become a habit. Before we know it we have lost access to our joy, and things are no longer feeling light or fun.
But our joy is always there. It just needs to be sparked and remembered.
So what brings you joy? What brings you alive? What feels like fun, to you? It might be totally different to what feels like fun to the next person, and that’s great.
Whatever feels like fun for you is perfect. Give yourself permission to follow that. To bring a lightness of being to whatever you’re doing. Notice the effect it has on you and those around you. Notice the effect on whatever it is you’re trying to achieve.
We can be so busy striving for things in the future that we forget this moment is all we really have. So don’t we want to enjoy it? If we’re not enjoying life along the way then what’s it all about?
Things can be much more fun if we’ll let them be. If we take the pressure off, loosen the slack and choose to tap into that lightness.
Feel the relaxation in your body and the space that opens up when you come back to joy. When you choose to play. Notice how it invigorates and inspires everything you do. Know it’s available to you right now.
When was the last time you felt really joyful? What has made you feel most joyful in the past? How can you bring more of those experiences or feelings into your life now?
Just setting the intention that you will enjoy your life more, that you will look for the fun and follow it can make all the difference.
Let joy lead you to your best possible life. It has the answers. It knows what will bring you the greatest sense of freedom and fulfilment.
So become intimately acquainted and before long it’ll be alive in you, brought to everything you do and everyone you meet. The simple joy of being.
Don’t go anywhere without your joy!
With love,
Kelly x
